Why not just replace the failed harddrive?

video card is gone too. Video card is ON the motherboard, and, it's an HP, so, from what I've heard from the computer guys, even if you replace the motherboard, theres a good cahnce it'll result in other component failure soon on.

So, I think it started with one of the kernel drivers in the video card, which started overheating a bit, combined with a lot of usage, overheated the motherboard and hard drive.

The video card cooked, and then I spent a bunch of time trying to fix it, but, after multiple boot failures, something probably corrupted the hard disk.. or something. Ultimately, I've put a crap-ton of time on it, like, all my hours on AO are on this laptop, so, it's taken a severe beating. It's time I replaced it usage wise, but, it's only 3 years old.

I'd say it's got over 5000 hours on it, and lots of those dual logged :P

I'm getting a new laptop.

this one, I think, so far has my eye.

http://rog.asus.com/Product.aspx?PId=39

So far, competes very well with many of the top of the line alienware laptops ($3000 buck MORE than this one). around 1500-1600 in the states, but, probably about 1900-2000$ here in Australiland.

A friend of mine got that laptop, he was pretty happy with it. Then again he was always a big fan of large power-packed "laptops". To me it seems a bit too big...

Btw my (HP) laptop is sent for repairs now, so using my 5 year old Acer p.o.s computer. Trying to copy AO from the backup HDD onto the laptop but the hardrive just disconnects randomly :(.

yuck@disconnected HDD.

TBH, I want a bigger screen. Grind keeps talkin about swapping prefs, but, ffs, my old HP screen is only a 14.1, which means that it's running on gimp resolution.

I want bigger resolution, also, so I can spot omlets on the periphery. otherwise, (on my old laptop), with all the chat screens and window and crap open, I'm only seeing a square of action in the center of my screen about 5 inches by 3 inches. Everything else is: Map, minimap, hotbars, inventory, 2-3 chat/action screens, NCU, programs, progress bars, and mission window, umm, ugh, thats a lot.

I'd rather pay a bit more, get a real kicker of a laptop, and have it be able to handle AO very nicely, and be able to play new games on it as well, without fuss.

Funny enough, the only games I really play though are AO and age of empires 2. lol, I'm such an oldie.
