Is M$ or my pc gonna force me into AM5?

Post by Soljier22 »

Heya's AP 'n friends! I'm currently formatting a usb drive fat32 in order to get a copy of the bios for my Asrock B550M Steel Legend mobo onto it. As some might know, my main pc at home crapped out on me...Ryzen 5 5600 (am4) system with an RX 6600. 'Am currently rockin' my previous system...Intel 2-core/4-thread Pentium 4560 with some 2GB vid card made for Chinese moba games...$50 and $50 apiece...back in like 2016-17-ish. EVGA 650W Q-som'n Gold PSU...maybe around 8 yrs old now.

'Lil rundown here:

-Couple months ago a 10-12 inch usb/led strip went out...no more pretty blue inside white interior DarkFlash case...well, a couple pretty blue (set by me) mobo rgb's are still working.

-Started having problems getting internet connection few weeks ago, router resets/etc. Last week: can't get it to boot to win10, that's been stable for few yrs.

-Several tries with retail usb win10 drive only got me to a "windows" desktop background...one time. No repair from usb drive...no reverting back to before any OS stable save point available. Can't remember exactly what any screen says...basically...wants a repair, or install. Bios loads fine-Windows does not. Can't get past "vga" and "boot" lights on mobo.

-Turn psu off, unplug it, take cmos battery to a shop to get a new one...it tested out well over 3v...bought new one anyways. Didn't fix anything.
-Installed 2GB vid card...didn't fix anything.

-The 2GB moba vid card (that I'm using as I type this) helps not. Unboxed a 2-stick kit of 3200 ddr4 did nothing (bios reports either set of ram I have installed, reports everything perfectly: cpu, ram, fan's 'n speeds, hdd/uefi/etc, etc). Newly purchased 1T nvme ssd did nothing.

So...bios is from 2020...will flash when my nerves are settled down...fat32 format done.

Mmmh....sounds like a ram problem....have you changed that to something else....IF not..heres what id recommend
G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16/32GB DDR4 3200MHz(very cheap these days)
If that is still not working could be a faulty moba o:
this is what i have GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE V2 ATX

ALSO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!

Use rufus to install an windows 10/11 on your PC!
I highly recommend win 10/11 LTSC

Thanks for replay.
Yes. I've tried different ram. The "2-stick kit of ddr4", I mentioned, is from my first-ever visit to a Micro Center store last December...TridentZ 2x16GB 3200...which bios recognizes, xmp enabled/disabled, just as it recognizes the original 2x8GB ram.

The bios is from 2020 (v 1.8 I believe, just recent enough to be compatible with the ryzen 5 5600 of the build that has been stable for for like 3+ yrs). There is a long list of bios for this mobo. About mid-way through the chronological list is the bios version mentioning win11. As soon as I'm comfortable that I have a bootable bios on a usb, I'll flash/update the bios.

Yes...Rufus/etc...hopefully, I'll get there.
