AP HELP & DONATIONS (SERVERS for Bots, systems,Web,...)

Post by Chrisax »

(Edited February 2024)

AP HELP & DONATIONS (SERVERS for Bots, Systems, Web,.. also domains names.

For almost 20 years, AP has been hosting many bots and systems for the Community like the "People of Rubi-Ka" mirror that most models of bots are using, and also websites and more, without bragging about it. And AP also holds several Internet domains names to make all this work. We are happy to do it, and proud that AP does it. But this has a cost, and it can be heavy when some years IRL are tough.

You can help, if you wish and can.

The annual average cost , at the time of this post, is 1 084 euros (1,172 USD) per year. ('See this answer for details: viewtopic.php?p=96744#p96744)

Excellent idea boss! Donated $10 to each cause. I'll try to make some regular contributions every couple of months.

Was thinking the other day who was paying for this nice website and the cool servers that carry our bots. Then I (re)found this post.

Ive donated a small amount to the server fund, hoping to allieviate the person that has carried this burden so far.

Hugs to all AP!

Making the post sticky because i think it might be more visible that way, and changing the subject a bit.

Heya Chris,

Stumbled across this post while trying to remain alive from the brink of dying from boredom at work. Is this project still a running thing or has it kind of fallen behind? I noticed the "monthy running costs" (post 3) has not been updated since apr 08.

I'm quite fortunate in RL credits (in game is different :? ), and AP has been very supportive of my return so when i can get back in game and recover from the moving costs i'd be happy to donate periodically to help keep some ppls in game and keep servers running.

If the project is dead let me know if there are alternative measures in place.

Well basically for the cost of the servers for the bots and the website, I believe that mainly Chris is carrying the monetary weight.

Thought I'd just mentioned this, as many people take the bots and the website for granted and are not aware that it also has a pricetag attached.

Well..

Mophro (post just above) is right. And, specifically, because Mophro is right about the fact I "carry the monetary weight", it's extremely difficult and touchy for me to advertise for this thread. So, plain and simple, I shut up.

Elrojo, thanks for your nice intentions. The reason why I haven't updated the post with any amount donated is quite "obvious" (although I forgot a donation made by Mophro on June, as posted in this thread)...
(Edited it just now by the way, for what it is worth.)

Once again, it's very difficult, in my position, to advertise for this topic. So I just help and I'm happy to help.

But, no, the project is not dead. Maybe it's just that it is waiting for some people to do the first steps.

Ok, i guessed the "obvious" reason may be the actual reason why this thread has now kinda gone silent for a bit. I'm quite happy to help with Bot and Server type costs on a semi regulr basis, though i have no idea what the cost to maintain this kind of thing is. Especially since the Euro is not my coin of choice. Chris maybe you could PM me with some more of an idea as its less of an "advertisment" to the Org.

If there is another way to "pass the hat around" for those members in need just PM me about that also.

Its great to be a part of an org that helps each other out.

Thank you Elrojo.

The cost is not secret, although there are some hidden cost like software upgrades to manage or create various things. It is displayed on the donation page (that I now included in this thread, see a bit above and just below). Currently, it's a bit more than 51 euros/month (68.95 US $). It's not expensive compared to market prices*, if you consider this is an almost unlimited professional offer that, for the bots server, has been working non-stop for 2 years and a half without any flaw or incident, except an incident with a switch on the network that was fixed within hours. Also, the important thing is that the server is not depending on anyone's connection/ISP or status or real life: the server is in a datacenter with techs around 24/24 7/7 and AP admins can work on it at any time from anywhere.

*Nevertheless, our provider has released much more powerful offers for almost the same price now, and we will obviously move to them.

I just received an automatic email from Paypal telling me that a 20 US $ donation was made not long ago. Thanks a lot to this AP from the USA. :D He knows who he is, and the info is kept confidential.

So I updated the donation page.
